A feeling of insufficient moisture in the intimate areas, which may result in friction or discomfort. They are influenced by various factors, including life stage, medications, cosmetics and circumstances of contact. Lubricant may temporarily reduce friction, but it does not explain the cause of the discomfort. Dryness is not automatically a sign of lack of desire, and persistent symptoms are worth discussing with a specialist.

Lubrication and lubrication are different tasks

A contact lubricant and a lubricant intended for regular use may have different functions. Not everyone is suitable for both purposes. Dryness may occur despite feeling the desire for closeness, so it should not be interpreted as an assessment of the relationship. In case of recurring symptoms, hormonal changes, medications taken and other ailments also play a role. A short-term reduction in friction alone does not identify the cause of the problem.

Describing the duration of dryness may help during the consultation: whether it occurs constantly, after contact, after a new preparation or with other symptoms. Such information is more specific than attributing it to a single cause. You should not continue painful activity just to evaluate the effectiveness of the cosmetic.

Meaning and application

In case of repeated discomfort, it is worth writing down the circumstances instead of immediately choosing the most strongly advertised preparation. The moment of onset, duration and other symptoms are important. Lubricant and moisturizing preparation may have different purposes.

In practice

Read the instructions for the appropriate product and determine whether it is for pre-contact use or other care. Do not replace the intimate preparation with body lotion. Also take into account condom compatibility and the other person's acceptance.

Don't automatically assume one cause, for example only age or too little arousal. Pain, bleeding and unusual symptoms require medical evaluation. Do not start hormone treatment on your own or use a supplement as a substitute.
